Going for the Microsoft reward

From the press release:

REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 12, 2009 — Today, Microsoft Corp. announced a partnership with technology industry leaders and academia to implement a coordinated, global response to the Conficker (aka Downadup) worm. Together with security researchers, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and operators within the Domain Name System, Microsoft coordinated a response designed to disable domains targeted by Conficker. Microsoft also announced a $250,000 reward for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for illegally launching the Conficker malicious code on the Internet.

Not all by themselves:

Along with Microsoft, organizations involved in this collaborative effort include ICANN, NeuStar, VeriSign, CNNIC, Afilias, Public Internet Registry, Global Domains International Inc., M1D Global, AOL, Symantec, F-Secure, ISC, researchers from Georgia Tech, the Shadowserver Foundation, Arbor Networks and Support Intelligence.

I saw that one earlier, but since I have limited access to info, I don't have the possibilities.

But today I spotted HostExploit's "Conficker; A Bounty Hunter’s Guide":

Take the clues from HostExploit and one guy you may end up with is "Victor" from Kiev in Ukraine. Not "Daniel Adams" from London. Or "S.Farrel" from Geneve in Switzerland. I don't think he is "John Davidson" from London either.

I wrote one posting last summer where "Victor" partially appeared.
Is Victor his real name? I don't know, that is a long shot too.
Very long shot.
If it's not him, he probably knows who the guys behind Downadup/Conficker are.

Yes, I know.
An extremely dark and long shot. Probably not correct.
Based only on HostExploits article.

And I guess Microsoft can keep their money if this is based from Ukraine.

that results in the arrest and conviction

Note and conviction
In Ukraine?

But I don't mind taking the money anyway.

I am probably far out here.
But it was fun.
